Bensenville man guilty of molesting girl

A Bensenville man Thursday admitted molesting a young girl while she was in his care.

Mario Chavez, 34, faces six to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced later this year. He pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault charges.

Authorities said Chavez repeatedly fondled a child, about 11 years old, between Jan. 1 and April 22. They said Chavez confessed in a videotaped statement during police questioning.

"This constituted a pattern of abuse which occurred approximately 10 times," prosecutor Demetri Demopoulos said in court. "The abuse typically happened in (the girl's) bedroom after the defendant returned home from work."

DuPage Circuit Judge Blanche Hill Fawell may sentence Chavez as early as Nov. 21. He faces deportation upon his release from prison.
