Go Green this fall for real change

"Change" is the big buzz word for the upcoming elections. With our nation and its citizens in crisis, the average person is hoping for the kind of change that will restore our belief that the American dream is still within reach for us and future generations. Can either the Democrats or the Republicans deliver the positive changes that are so needed right now? Maybe it's time for voters to think and act out of the box.

If I could, I'd eliminate all political parties and have every candidate for every office stand or fall based on their own merits, not on how much money they can raise and spend to get our attention. Since that will never happen, I have chosen to become involved in the Green Party. The Green Party bases its platform on 10 core values. Visit www.ilgp.org/about/10-key-values. I think you will find these are values you believe in, too.

Since the news media has a tendency to ignore independent and third party candidates, you may not know that the Illinois Green Party is offering candidates in many elections this year. These people have chosen to run because they want to serve their fellow citizens and make this state a better place. Green Party candidates do not accept corporate campaign donations. They want to represent you, not big business and special interests. To learn more about the Green Party candidates running in your area and what they stand for, visit www.rpil.org.

Do you want real change that will promote basic American values instead of "good ol' boys" and "pay-for-play" politics? Vote for the Green Party candidates in November. Real change may come slowly, one candidate at a time, but the average citizen can make it happen. It's up to you.
