Seven injured in Johnsburg school bus accident
An early morning accident in Johnsburg, involving a school bus and two other vehicles, resulted in minor injuries to three students, police said Thursday.
It occurred at 7:16 a.m. at Country Springs and Ringwood roads near Johnsburg High School, Chief Kenneth Rydberg Jr. said. Police say a 1999 Ford Expedition, driven by a 17-year-old Johnsburg woman, crashed into a 2000 Blazer, which was stopped behind a school bus that had stopped to pick up Johnsburg High students.
"We're still investigating, but it seems the bus was stopped with one vehicle stopped behind it when the third vehicle failed to stop," Rydberg said.
There were 21 students on the bus in addition to the driver. The three students were taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, Rydberg said.
He said charges will likely be issued today in connection with the accident.
McHenry, Spring Grove and Richmond emergency personnel assisted at the scene.
"Everyone needs to pay attention, especially when they see school buses because they are often making stops," Rydberg said.
