Man struck, killed in Des Plaines

A man struck and killed while trying to cross Lee Street in Des Plaines late Wednesdsay has been identified as 57-year-old George Peterson of Des Plaines.

No charges have been filed against the driver of a minivan that police say struck Peterson as he tried to cross the street on foot in heavy traffic. The police investigation continues. Police said Peterson was apparently not in a crosswalk when he was hit by the minivan.

The Cook County medical examiner's office plans an autopsy later today for Peterson, who lived on McKinley Street.
