Briefs: Second teen charged in burglaries
An arrest warrant has been issued for a South Elgin teen accused of breaking into vehicles and garages in a subdivision near St. Charles over the weekend, police said Wednesday. Candice Guido, 17, of 642 Chesterfield Lane, is the second teenager charged with burglary in connection with several thefts late Sunday or early Monday in the Silver Glen Estates neighborhood, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Department. Lt. Pat Gengler said the string of burglaries remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call (630) 208-5353.
Candidates forum in Elgin
The Near West Neighbors Association of Elgin will hold a candidates forum from 7 to 9 tonight for candidates for the 43rd House District race, Kane County Board chairman and possibly the 16th Circuit judge's race, if the candidates can fit it in their schedules. Written questions will be from the floor and presented by the moderator to the candidates. The forum is at Light House Church, 325 South St., Elgin. Enter through the front door.
Batavia craft sale
The Batavia Mothers' Club Foundation's arts and crafts sale is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the field house at Mooseheart, Route 31 between Batavia and North Aurora. It will include fine art, glass, photography, quilting, woodwork, floral items and more. Admission is $3. There is a bake sale, including a brownie bake-off. Lunch and breakfast will be sold.
