Fitness test ordered for accused 'cyberstalker'

A Cook County judge ordered a behavioral clinical exam for accused cyberstalker Thomas Brodnicki, 43, following his appearance in a Rolling Meadows courtroom Tuesday.

Judge Thomas Fecarotta ordered the test to determine the Brodnicki's fitness to stand trial, his sanity at the time of the alleged offense and his ability to understand the Miranda warning at the time of his July arrest. Indicted on two counts of cyberstalking, Brodnicki could face one to three years in prison if convicted.

According to prosecutors, Brodnicki sent threatening e-mails to a woman he met eight years ago when she worked at a convenience store. He has pursued her on and off ever since, and once showed up at her Iowa college, where police arrested him for harassment.

At his bond hearing last summer, Brodnicki claimed to live in Elk Grove Village off his investments. Prosecutors describe him as homeless. Brodnicki is being held without bond in the Cook County Jail. He next appears in court Dec. 1.
