State doesn't need another Con-Con
In the debate over whether to hold a constitutional convention in Illinois, I'm taking the "nay" side.
Maybe I am being cautious by choosing to keep the current constitution, but I find nothing wrong with protecting a document that safeguards our individual rights and provides a solid framework for the state's legislative process.
The deep-rooted problems in our government are a result of politicians' abuse of the system.
Under different leadership, our constitution has been an excellent tool for the government to do what is right for the people of Illinois.
The Illinois Constitution today is both a solid and dynamic document, which has remained relevant since its adoption.
The built-in review process enables us to decide whether the constitution needs a complete makeover. It is an important provision that needs to be taken seriously and protected from narrowly-defined interests.
I urge everyone to vote "no" in November.
