Briefs: Huntley hosts workshop
The village of Huntley is inviting local residents and business owners to attend a workshop Wednesday, Oct. 15, on the potential location of a new Metra station in Huntley. The village will use the input to help decide which site - where the railroad tracks meet Coyne Station Road and where the tracks meet Kreutzer Road - could house a new train station. The workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Huntley board room, 10987 Main St.
Senior safety seminar
The Elgin Township Triad will host a fall senior safety academy from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct 16, at the 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin. The first session will cover the duties of the Citizen's Emergency Response Team and the second session, which starts at 10:30 a.m. will explain the role of the Kane County SWAT Team. The program is free and includes a boxed lunch. However, participants must be township residents and register beforehand by calling (847) 741-2045.
Middle school stages musical
You've read Dr. Seuss, and you've seen "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," but you've never seen the beloved author and illustrator of children's books like this. Heineman Middle School is staging "Seussical the Musical," a show based on the characters and books of Dr. Seuss. Performances of the musical will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17. The show will be at Huntley High School, 13729 Harmony Road. You can buy tickets for $5 each at the door. Pam Jorgensen and Emily Moore are directing the show - their ninth at the middle school.
Candidates forum in Elgin
The Near West Neighbors Association of Elgin will hold a candidates forum Thursday, Oct. 16, for candidates for the 43rd House District race, Kane County Board chairman and maybe the 16th Circuit judge's race, if the candidates can fit it in their schedules. Written questions will be from the floor and presented by the moderator to the candidates. It will begin at 7 p.m. and end no later than 9 p.m. at the Light House Church, 325 South St., Elgin. Enter through the front door. You do not need to be a resident of the association to participate.
