IMSA accepting applications:

Applications for the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy Class of 2012 are available at imsa.edu/admissions. Students enrolled in the equivalent of a freshman program are eligible for consideration to the three-year advanced college preparatory program. Students live on campus. Tuition and most room-and-board expenses are provided by state funds. Written applications must be postmarked no later than March 1. Students may obtain the applications online or contact their high school guidance counselor or IMSA's admissions office at (630) 907-5028.

Golf for softball:

The Geneva Foxes Fastpitch softball organization is having a golf party to raise money for indoor training and equipment at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Geneva. Cost is $110, and the format is best-ball scramble. Dinner only is $40. There is a cash bar. Hole sponsorships are $150 for one, $250 for two. Theatre tickets on sale:

The Kane County Bar Association and Geneva Underground Playhouse celebrate their 150th anniversaries Sunday, Oct. 19 with two performances of "Inherit the Wind." Tickets are $20 for shows at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the historic downtown Geneva courthouse, 100 S. Third St. The play details the Scopes "monkey trial" which sparked debate over the theory of intelligent design. For tickets, call (630) 762-1915 or visit kanecountybar.org.

Campton brush pickup:

Brush pickup begins this month in the Campton Township Highway District. Collections will take place Oct. 20 to 24 north of Route 64 and Oct. 27 to 31 to the south. Limbs must be no more than 18 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length. Brush should be piled neatly with cut ends facing the road and should not be tied. Yard waste will not be collected. Wine party for parade:

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce will host a wine tasting to raise money for the Swedish Days Parade from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 21 at Fresh Market, 718 Commons Drive, off Bricher Road. There will appetizers and discounts available. Tickets are $25. To purchase, call (630) 232-6060.
