Elgin man of the year to be honored Oct. 17
The Elgin Riverside Club will host its annual "Man of the Year" celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at the private social club, 21 Lincoln Ave., Elgin.
This year's selection is Roger Hartmann, a member since May 1997. The 48-year Elgin resident is a retired Local 117 IBEW electrician who joined the club at the urging of Elmer Hecht, Man of the Year in 1989. In 2007, he served as a trustee on the executive board. In addition, he donated time and labor for many projects, including remodeling in the kitchen, bar, restroom and banquet hall. He was also involved in installing the parking lot lights and exterior lighting and roof maintenance. In addition, he has spent countless hours cleaning gutters, trimming bushes, weeding, pruning and planting on the club house grounds. His continual support and service make him stand out as a valuable contributor to the club. Hartmann is also active in St. John Lutheran Church in Elgin as a trustee and also volunteers hours working on the church's buildings and grounds. In addition, he helps out at the American Legion Post 57 with electrical maintenance.
All members and their guests are invited. Tickets for the dinner are $20. Tickets are available at (847) 741-0387.
