Huntley gets grant for surveillance camera system
In August the Huntley Police Department was awarded a federal grant for the purchase of a surveillance camera system. The grant was provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and distributed through the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program. The department received a XOA Portable Video Surveillance System.
"With the help of our Federal partners, this high-tech equipment will provide the Huntley Police Department with another tool to keep our community safe." said Chief John Perkins.
The XOA Portable Video Surveillance System has three cameras capable of recording video in low light or complete darkness. The camera is portable and runs on batteries so it can be used in many different types of areas to try to capture criminal activity. The system records the activity that can then be used as evidence in court proceedings. It also has the capability of being viewed live from remote locations. The grant provided for one Huntley officer to be flown to Raleigh, N.C. to be trained in the use and applications of the camera. The equipment can be used to monitor high risk locations and be used during surveillances. This camera will also assist greatly in the areas of the village that have been experiencing high occurrences of copper thefts or in areas where graffiti is being reported.
