McHenry shuts down D-C

While Dundee-Crown needed Friday's game against McHenry and 1 of its last 2 games of the season to qualify for postseason play, the Chargers (3-4, 0-3) were not in the shoes of McHenry, which faced elimination and needs to win out to preserve its consecutive playoff streak to 21 straight years.

Now it's a must win for D-C every time out, just like McHenry (3-4, 2-1), after the Warriors staved off elimination again and squashed the Chargers 32-10 in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division at the D-C Bowl Friday night.

The Warrior defense, which gave up 50 yards in the first half to Jacobs last week, was at it again. While letting up 82 total yards in the first half, McHenry made the night tough for Logan Kissack, the area's second leading passer. Kissack, who was 11 for 28 with 128 yards, was pressured all night, and Ian Salvatini amassed just 72 yards, making it tough for the Chargers to get down the field.

"They ran something a little different that I've never seen before, with a deep cornerback and another guy playing man and another guy in the lfat. That kind of threw us off a little," said Kissack.

"They made it tough for us to run outside, which we tried to do," Chargers coach Mike Davis said, whose team finished with 194 total yards. "They physical. Logan had pressure on him and set up."

And while the Chargers couldn't get down the field, the Warriors' Dana Kohn was rushing all over the Charger defense. The junior running back rushed for 210 yards in the first half alone, more yards than the Chargers amassed on offense all game. His 69-yard run with 2:30 left in the first quarter put the Warriors up 7-3, and that would be for good. Kohn, who finished with 218 yards rushing, had a pair of 60-plus runs in the first quarter (60,69). His counterpart, Mike Soto, only put up 72 yards on the ground, but put McHenry up 20-3 in the second quarter on an 18-yard run, giving the Warriors all the confidence they need going into another must win against Woodstock next week.
