The Batavia High School Dance varsity team received a second-place trophy for their Home Routine. The varsity team includes: first row, from left, Ashley Stack, Claire Andrews, Christy Scimeca, Tara Batty, Gina Gregolunas, Carly Key (captain), Nea Cortez (captain), and Emily Scully; second row, Jenifer Camery and Lauren Jackson; and third row, Katie Wyeth, Tara Jones, Katie Kempiak, Nicole Gabinski, Ari Perez, Marissa Thiry, Amy Drallmeier, Amanda Scully, Coach Angela Fuqua, Taylor Maladra, and Jennifer Wood. The Batavia High School Dance Teams attended the Wheaton College Universal Dance Association Camp from July 16-19. Both varsity and JV teams shined as they received numerous awards.
Both teams received Spirit Sticks and a Drill Down Trophy for the most ribbons received as a team for the drill down commands. The JV Team received a first-place trophy for their Home Routine and varsity received a second-place trophy for their Home Routine. Varsity qualified for the Universal Dance Association National Competition in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2009. Both teams also received Superior Ribbons for the A, B, and C routines learned at camp. The varsity captains for this year are: Carly Key and Nea Cortez. The junior varsity captains for this year are: Katie Hubbard and Sammi Hallberg.
The Varsity Allstars named at camp include: Lauren Jackson, Nea Cortez, Christy Scimeca, Ashley Stack, Claire Andrews, and Katie Wyeth.
The Junior Varsity All Stars named at camp include: Colleen Fessler, Sammi Hallberg, Katie Hubbard and Mary Wolff.
