Clear choices on weighty problems
As we are all painfully aware, the U.S. and the world face mind-boggling problems. Like so many others, the problems that weigh heaviest on my mind today are the economy and the deterioration of our relations with other countries.
I do not typically write letters to endorse a candidate but with so much at stake I am now compelled to do so. We simply must elect a president and vice president who are best qualified to deal with these two very difficult issues as well as others such as poverty, unemployment and the deterioration of our environment. We can no longer be fascinated and maybe even "blinded" by the political hype, negative ads and one-issue dialogues. We need to make rational and informed decisions about the individuals who will serve as the leaders of this great nation.
I hope that you will join me in casting your vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Here are a few reasons that I think these individuals are the best choice.
Obama has proposed the following:
• No golden parachutes - taxpayer dollars should not be used to reward the irresponsible Wall Street executives who helmed this disaster.
• Any bailout plan must include a payback strategy for taxpayers who are footing the bill and aid to innocent homeowners who are facing foreclosure.
• Bipartisan oversight. The staggering amount of taxpayer money involved demands a bipartisan board to ensure accountability and oversight
According to the BBC World Service/World Opinion Poll and the Pew Global Attitudes Project, "McCain is rated lower than Obama in every country surveyed, except for the U.S. where his rating matches Obama's, as well as in Jordan and Pakistan where few people have confidence in either candidate."
There are many other reasons to support Senator Obama and Senator Biden; these reasons include their plans for taxes, healthcare, education, and energy and the environment. I would encourage you to review these plans and compare them to those of Senator McCain and Governor Palin.
