Batavia schools must limit spending
Last April the Daily Herald published an article about how the cost of gas was hurting school budgets. At that time I wrote to you to inquire how Batavia schools was able to lower the cost of their driver education class when faced with these increases.
After my letter was published the Batavia schools responded that they may only charge what the state allows them to charge. While that is true, they did not answer the question of what they did or did not do that caused the state to change its mind with regard to the cost of driver education.
Why one year does the state say it's OK to charge $400 to cover your (the school's) cost and then the next year say that they may only charge $250 despite the increases in cost?
Recently Susan Sarkauskas wrote an article telling us the "Batavia schools' budget hits red." I'm so confused. There is even mention in the article that Batavia schools could find itself on a state financial watch list. I can only imagine what that will do to property values if this deficit spending continues. I believe that it would be in everyone's best interest to address this deficit issue.
