A law to make our children safe

Our local schools have several different functions. In addition to developing the minds of our children, it is vitally important that schools provide a safe environment for their students. I am glad to see the "Student and Teacher Safety Act" introduced by U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam of the 6th Congressional District. This Act requires local education agencies to have policies that allow school officials to search any student on public grounds if there is reasonable suspicion or threat.

As an original cosponsor of the "Student and Teacher Safety Act," Roskam wants to ensure that our children's schools are free from weapons, drugs and any other types of violent acts. Being a parent himself, Roskam knows how important it is to make our children's safety and future a top priority. I believe this law should make every parent feel better about seeing their child go out the door each day on their way to a safer school.
