Sugar Grove bank robbed, no one injured
A man who apparently worked alone and claimed to have a gun robbed a Sugar Grove bank at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday of an undisclosed amount of cash.
The three bank employees and one customer who were present at a branch of Oak Trust Credit Union at 80 N. Dugan Road were not injured.
According to Officer John Sizer of the Sugar Grove Police Department, it is believed to be the first bank robbery in Sugar Grove.
A man who was described to police as white, 30 to 35 years of age, 5-foot-10 and about 200 pounds, with a goatee and a scab on the bridge of his nose. He wore a baseball cap, a blue shirt, blue jeans and a jacket, possibly green.
He entered the bank about 9:30 a.m. and wrote a note demanding cash. He gave it to the teller who complied, and the man left the bank. The note implied that he had a gun, but no gun was shown, according to police.
He was seen leaving the area in an early 1990s teal Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. It did not appear that anyone was waiting in the truck. No one was able to see the license plate number.
The FBI and the Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation. The event was recorded on the bank's surveillance tape. The suspect's appearance does not match the description of the man who robbed a Campton Hills bank earlier this month, according to Sizer.
