As the weather shifts from summer to fall, the dead start to come to life in haunted houses around Lake County.

While some people seem to want to stay away from things that go bump in the night, many people in Lake County search out the spookiest sites.

To get your scare, check out these haunts:

Realm of Terror

Dates: Oct. 10-12, Oct. 17-19, Oct. 24-26, Oct. 29-31 and Nov. 1

Times: Thursdays, 7-10 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. until after midnight; Sundays, 7-10 p.m.

X-treme Hauntings

17th Annual St. Matthew Haunted House

The Legendary Dungeon of Doom and the Labyrinth of Doom

Lindenhurst Haunted Trail and Bonfire

Date: Oct. 18

Times: Haywagon runs 3:30-6 p.m., the haunted trail runs 4:30-8:30 p.m. and the costume contest starts at 3:30 p.m. All other attractions from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Location: Forest View Park, 513 Forest View Drive in Lindenhurst

Matinee: The one-day event is open to all ages.

Lake Zurich Haunted House

Date: Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25 with matinees Oct. 18 and Oct. 25

Times: 7:30-11 p.m., matinees noon to 2 p.m.

Location: The Barn at 200 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich

Lambs Farm Haunted Harvest

Dates: Oct. 11, 18 and 25.

Times: 6-10 p.m.

Location: 14245 W. Rockland Road. in Libertyville

Cost: $15 for an all-night pass. Children under 3 years of age are free. Open to all ages.

Six Flags Fright Fest

Dates: Oct. 4 and 5, 10 through 12, 17 through 19, 24 through 26, Oct. 31, and Nov 1 and 2.

Times: Fridays- 11 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Location: Six Flags Great America at 542 N. Route 21 in Gurnee

Cost: Ticket window is $54.99, but depending on the weekend, the cost is $29.99 or $34.99 if tickets are purchased online.

Matinee: Attractions are open to all ages.
