Outdoor lighting may have caused $100,000 Naperville house fire
A house fire that may have been sparked by outdoor electrical lighting equipment caused an estimated $100,000 damage early Tuesday morning at 1824 Morgan Circle in southeast Naperville.
Firefighters received a 911 call at 3:56 a.m. and arrived six minutes later to find fire spreading rapidly at the rear of the home from the ground level through the roof, Assistant Chief Richard Mikel said.
Two residents who were in the building escaped before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to battle the blaze, which was ravaging the attic.
Mikel said firefighters extinguished the bulk of the fire by 4:10 a.m., but units remained at the scene for several more hours.
Authorities said the cause of the blaze appears to be accidental and may be tied to lighting equipment at the back of the house.
A Naperville building inspector has declared the house uninhabitable until repairs are made, officials said.
