Whitney Young guard commits to Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Chicago high school shooting guard Anthony Johnson has made an oral commitment to play basketball at Purdue.

The 6-foot-3 junior from Chicago's Whitney Young High School averaged 10 points and five rebounds a game last season and is ranked 49th nationally in the class of 2010 by rivals.com. He said Monday he picked Purdue over Ohio State and Marquette.

Johnson will be able to sign a letter of intent in November 2009 and enroll at Purdue in the fall of 2010.

Johnson joins a 2010 recruiting class at Purdue that includes Danville center Travis Carroll and Indianapolis North Central guard Terone Johnson.

Anthony Johnson said a factor in picking Purdue was the chance for immediate playing time since Boilermaker guards Keaton Grant and Chris Kramer are expected to graduate in 2010.
