Nurse steps up to help young athlete
On Thursday evening, 9/11/08, the Elk Grove Park District presented one of our residents with an award for action above and beyond the call of duty.
While attending a football team practice Therese Egan, a mother of one of the team players as well as a nurse for Alexian Brothers Hospital, witnessed a young man take an extremely hard hit. The player was brought to the sidelines at which time his parents and coaches attended to him.
Both parties thought that things were under control and were just going to dismiss the problem. It was at this time that Therese came down to evaluate the situation herself. She convinced all parties involved that it was her strong belief that the young man needed professional care. Five days later the young man was released from the hospital. Mrs. Egan should be applauded for her actions.
