Work on golf cart underpass snarls traffic in Mundelein

Rush-hour traffic on Route 176 in Mundelein was jammed up Monday morning after the Lake County Department of Transportation shut down W. Hawley Street to build a golf cart underpass, county officials said.

The closure pushed people onto Route 176 between Route 60 and Gilmer Road, officials said.

Pulte Homes is constructing the pedestrian/golf cart underpass, transportation officials said. But, the underpass is designed to connect the north and south side of the Countryside Golf Course facility for the Lake County Forest Preserve.

During construction, which lasts until Oct. 13, people are being asked to use Route 60/83, to Illinois Route 176, to Gilmer Road.
