Slain officer receives university certificate
A Chicago university has awarded a graduate certificate posthumously to a police officer who was fatally shot last week.
St. Xavier University awarded the certificate to Nathaniel Taylor Jr. The 39-year-old was shot in the head and chest while serving a search warrant on the city's South Side.
Taylor was in the university's fraud examination and management MBA program. He had completed his undergraduate degree in January.
The 14-year police veteran had earned 55 awards in his career.
A 37-year-old Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in Taylor's death.
