Why should execs get any bailout pay?

Let me get this straight: Bush and the Democrats have agreed to compromise on capping the pay of executives who participate in the $700 billion bailout plan. These are the same executives who got their companies in this mess in the first place. Why do they deserve to be paid at all? I say fire them now with no severance package. After all, isn't that exactly what they would do to an employee who showed such gross incompetence?
