Local candidates important, too
As a veteran, I believe it is important that we pay attention to the candidates running for office locally as well as those running on the national level. Even though the candidates for president are making a bigger splash in the headlines, it is the local candidates that can have some of the greatest impact in our daily lives.
Recently, State Rep. Ruth Munson publicized some programs that she took credit for that would increase services for veterans. What she didn't tell us is that if she got her way, there would not have been any funding for any of those programs. Munson voted against the Illinois Warrior Assistance Program yet still sent out publications to promote her commitment to veterans and specifically mentioned her support for this program.
It is time for politicians to stand up and be held responsible for their actions. If you vote against something, you should not be allowed to take credit for it.
Frankly, I am tired of state legislators doing one thing in Springfield and then telling local residents something else. It makes me think politicians like Ruth Munson believe that as constituents, we are not smart enough to look at their voting record.
