Warren passes up Zee-Bees

Zion-Benton's football team looked like it might have a chance to win its first game of the 2008 season.

But the passing combination of Zach Shaw to Ryan Maguire and Tom Lindal's rushing proved too much as Warren stayed undefeated in the North Suburban Lake Division with a 31-14 victory over the host Zee-Bees on Friday night.

Zion-Benton (0-6, 0-3) was down only 10-7 at halftime, but Warren (5-1, 4-0) outscored the hosts 21-7 in the second half.

Shaw (8-of-12 passing, 129 yards) threw 3 touchdown passes to Maguire, and Lindal rushed for 197 yards on 19 carries.

Shaw's first strike to Maguire was for 20 yards with 5:30 left in the second quarter, the second touchdwon was a corner route for 14 yards with 1:15 to go in the third, and the final was for 19 yards midway through the fourth.

Lindal scored from 14 yards out with 9:18 left in the third.

"A lot of times our offensive line really picked it up," Shaw said. "I was getting five seconds every time I threw the ball. Any quarterback who's going to get that much time with wide-open receivers should be able to connect with them."

Blue Devil coach Dave Mohapp was happy with his offense.

"Lindal is only a sophomore and is just a steady, consistent player for us and we're lucky to have him," he said. "Zach has done a good job for us all year long and throws the ball right on the money. He did a great job for us tonight."

Zion-Benton scored the first touchdown of the night as T.J. Trepanier capped a 45-yard drive with a 1-yard sneak to give the Zee-Bees a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

After Warren scored 10 unanswered points to take a 17-7 lead in the third quarter, the Zee-Bees made things interesting as Trepanier threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jaevan Moto to pull the Zee-Bees within 17-14 with 9:18 left in the third, but that's all the scoring that the Zee-Bees could muster.
