Garden Clubs

• The next business meeting of the Wheeling Garden Club honors Lori Hazelwood, supervisor of forestry for the Village of Wheeling, and David Young of Meyer Materials in Wheeling. Demonstrations

• Knupper Nursery hosts a free seminar on attracting birds to gardens through feeders, seeds and more at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1801 N. Rand Road, Palatine. There is also a Pumpkin Planter Workshop at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, for $25. Preregistration is required. (847) 359-1080.

• The 1843 Durant Peterson House Museum's Autumn Frolic features a tasting of antique apples varieties from the 19th century from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve on Dean Street, west of Randall Road and west of St. Charles. • The Garfield Farm Museum's "Harvest Days" features plenty of demonstrations on historical self-sufficiency like gardening, canning and more. Visit the museum from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 just off Route 38 at Garfield Road, LaFox. Admission is $6; $3 for kids. (630) 584-8485.

Chicago Botanic Garden

• The Bulb Bazaar sponsored by the Woman's Board of the Chicago Horticultural Society features more than 200 varieties for sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

• The Autumnal Forest Walk is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10. Cost is $15.

• A workshop on pressed flower designs is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11. Cost is $49.

• Jon Carloftis, whose work has appeared on HGTV and national shows on other networks, will present a half-day symposium exploring "The Art and Business of Garden Design" at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. The cost is $74, $59 for garden members. Call (847) 835-8261.

• The Illinois Orchid Society Fall Show and Sale is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12.

• Sukkot Family Activities to celebrate the Jewish New Year are on Sunday, Oct. 12.

• "Stone by Design: The Artistry of Lew French" will be a half-day symposium at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18. French, who has been the subject of magazine stories and television shows, will answer questions and sign books. The cost is $74, and members pay $59.59. Call (847) 835-8261.

Morton Arboretum

• The Fall Color Festival is through Sunday, Oct. 26. The festival features an appearance by rock star Marty Casey, a 5K Run and Walk and more activities.

• The Chicago chapter of Ikebana International hosts an exhibit and demonstration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
