One killed, one wounded in Aurora shooting
One person is dead and another injured following what police are labeling a drug-related shooting in Aurora.
Police on Thursday are investigating the death of 28-year-old Hector Valtierrez of Chicago, who was found shot in the 600 block of North Root Street.
Officials responded to a call of shots being fired shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found Valtierrez dead.
Sgt. Chris Whitfield confirmed Valtierrez's shooting was the city's first homicide of 2008.
Whitfield said another victim of the same shooting incident was dropped off at Aurora's Mercy Center Hospital about 10 p.m. Wednesday and was still being treated late Thursday for gunshot wounds to his shoulder and groin.
Authorities have interviewed several people and preliminary indications are it was a drug-related shooting.
Anyone who may have information about this crime or the person who delivered the second victim to Mercy Center Hospital is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 801-6655.
