Judson hosts 'Fields of Faith' rally
For many fans, faith and football are integrally connected.
Judson University in Elgin will take that connection one step further at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday, as its hosts the Chicago-area's annual "Fields of Faith" rally.
One of 255 rallies across the country, the event will feature former Ohio State University football player Joel Penton addressing students from across the state at the Judson softball field.
An interdenominational gathering, the rally is centered upon the shared testimonies of Christian students and athletes.
Both Wheaton College and Elmhurst College have hosted the event in the past, Judson Sports Director Adam Ledyard said.
With the school's revamped softball field, home of the Chicago Bandits women's professional softball team and capable of holding 1,500 people, "we thought this was a great opportunity to show who Judson is and what we believe in," Ledyard said.
Judson student and alumni band "The Least of These" will perform during the rally.
The school plans to set up admissions booths with information about the college during the rally, and raffle off a $16,000 scholarship, paid out over four years, Ledyard said.
