Ex-Illinois player faces rape charges
URBANA -- Prosecutors say DNA evidence links a former Illinois football player, who's in custody on rapes charges in Florida, with three Illinois rapes during the 1990s.
Champaign County prosecutors charged 38-year-old Steven Feagin of Deerfield Beach, Florida, on Friday with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Feagin attended University of Illinois from 1989 through 1992. He was a running back on the football team.
He is charged with assaulting a female student in 1993 and two other women in 1995. In June, Urbana police learned that DNA from a 2007 Florida crime scene matched DNA collected during the Illinois investigations.
It was not immediately clear whether Feagin has an attorney.
