Parker's rookie jersey ranks most popular in WNBA
NEW YORK - Los Angeles Sparks rookie Candace Parker tops the WNBA's list of most popular player jerseys, based on sales at the NBA Store and WNBAStore.com during the 2008 WNBA regular season.
Parker's jersey sold more than any other rookie jersey in the history of the WNBA, according to league officials, who did not release sales figures.
The Sparks also top this season's list of most popular WNBA team merchandise, boosted by the popular of Parker, a former Naperville Central star and college all-American at Tennessee.
Joining Parker among the top sellers list were teammate Lisa Leslie and former Stevenson High School star Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever.
Sales of WNBA merchandise were up more than 36 percent versus last season, including a 46 percent increase in jersey sales, based on combined sales from the NBA Store and WNBAStore.com. The NBA Store had its best year ever with sales up a 25 percent versus last year.
