YWCA hosts candidate forums
Voters will get three chances this weekend to hear the views of candidates for state elected office at forums hosted by YWCA Lake County.
On Saturday, Steve Greenberg of Long Grove, Republican challenger in the 8th Congressional District, is scheduled to appear at the first forum from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wauconda Area Public Library, 801 N. Main St. Incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean of Barrington has been invited but has not responded to the request.
Also appearing will be Republican Dan Duffy of unincorporated Lake Barrington, a candidate for the 26th District state Senate seat being vacated by William Peterson, who is retiring. His opponent, Democrat Bill Gentes of Round Lake, has a previous engagement and will not attend.
In the 52nd District state Representative race, Dee Beaubien, wife of incumbent Republican state Rep. Mark Beaubien of Barrington, will appear on his behalf facing challenger Rich Garling. a Democrat from Island Lake.
Two forums are scheduled for Sunday.
The first, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich, features 51st District Republican state Rep. Ed Sulivan Jr. of Mundelein and his opponent, Democrat Amanda Howland of Lake Zurich.
Duffy and Gentes also will appear.
From 2 to 4 p.m. District 59 state Rep. Kathy Ryg, a Democrat from Vernon Hills, will face challenger Dan Sugrue, a Republican from Mettawa.
Voter registration also will be available at the events. The YWCA since this summer has been working in cooperation with several other regional and community groups to register voters. The last day to register to be eligible to vote on Nov. 4 is Oct. 7.
