S. Elgin man faces drug charges

A South Elgin man faces drug charges after a search of his home this week turned up cocaine labeled for sale hidden in a flashlight, police said.

South Elgin and Elgin police teamed up at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday when they searched a home and garage at 1020 Robertson Road in South Elgin with a warrant.

Police said they found the resident, Edward F. Kish, 52, in bed, 1.6 grams of cocaine in his bedside dresser drawer and 14.1 grams of cocaine in multiple plastic bags concealed in a flashlight in his car.

Police said the bags of cocaine each contained pieces of paper with coded names on them, presumably the names of the recipients of the drugs.

Kish was charged in court Wednesday with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, police said.

If convicted of both charges, Kish could receive between 5 and 18 years in prison.

Kish said in court Wednesday he had previously been arrested by federal authorities in Florida in the 1980s on drug charges, but he didn't mention the outcome of the case.

Kish was unable to post a $7,500 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Wednesday, but indicated he probably would soon be able to post the money.

His next court date is on Oct. 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
