• The Addison Public Library, 4 Friendship Plaza, will participate in "Read for the Record" from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. today, Oct. 2. Readers from around the nation will attempt to set a world record for the most people simultaneously reading the same book, "Corduroy" by Don Freeman. • The Sudanese Community Association of Illinois will hold a benefit concert from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in Ryan Auditorium at Northwestern University, Evanston. Bands scheduled to play include Bongo Love, Conor Redig, Howling Poppies, Pool Water and State Radio. Any man willing to walk the course in women's shoes will be eligible for the Golden Shoe Award; their own shoes will be returned to them at the quarter-mile mark for a $10 donation.
