Palatine father accused of shaking son
Palatine police say a father shook and injured his 4-month-old son because he would not eat or stop crying.
Brian Kalinowski, 32, of 1119 N. Claremont Drive, was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a child. He was being held on $75,000 bond after a court hearing Wednesday in Rolling Meadows.
Police said the Palatine Fire Department responded to a call at 4 p.m. Friday to help the child, who was reported to be going in and out of consciousness at the Claremont Drive home.
Paramedics took the infant to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where medical personnel contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
It then was recommended the child be transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said. The boy's injuries were then diagnosed to be consistent with shaken-baby syndrome.
Police said they contacted Kalinowski after being alerted by DCFS about the injured baby. Authorities said he admitted shaking his son because wouldn't stop crying or eat.
Kalinowski's next court appearance is set for Oct. 29.
Additional details were not immediately available from Palatine police Wednesday night. The infant's condition also was not available.
