Round Lake Park man beat and raped woman, police say

A Round Lake Park man beat and sexually assaulted a woman following a weekend argument and refused to let her leave the house, police said Tuesday.

The woman was able to escape and call for help only after Gil Torres-Gutierrez fell asleep, police said.

Torres-Gutierrez, 41, of 403 N. Kenwood Drive, was arrested Sunday and initially charged with felony aggravated domestic battery. On Monday, additional felony charges of criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint were added, Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said.

Police were called to the house by a relative of the victim about 4:50 p.m. Sunday.

Officers found the badly beaten and bruised woman there, and she was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment, police said.

At the hospital, police learned Torres-Gutierrez had sexually assaulted the victim and pulled her back into the house by her hair when she tried to escape, Filenko said.

She eventually fled to a neighbor's home, where she called relatives for help, police said.

The ordeal lasted about eight hours, police said.

Torres-Gutierrez has a history of domestic battery, police said.

He was held in Lake County jail on $150,000 bond.

The case remained under investigation Tuesday.
