Parents input sought on Fabyan School boundary

Fabyan Elementary School won't open for nearly another year, but it is already time to establish attendance boundaries.

Geneva District 304 has planned three forums to discuss school boundaries for when the school opens next fall at Fabyan Parkway and Mill Creek Drive in the Mill Creek subdivision west of Randall Road.

All forums are at 7 p.m.

The first is Oct. 8, at Geneva Middle School South, 1415 Viking Drive, Geneva.

The next is Oct. 15 at Western Avenue Elementary School, 1500 Western Ave., Geneva.

The last is Oct. 16 at Mill Creek Elementary School, Brundige Drive and Keslinger Road.

Students from the south portion of the Mill Creek subdivision mostly attend Western Avenue School right now, with a few at Mill Creek. They all had attended Mill Creek until 2004, when that school was deemed too crowded. The students were then shifted to Western, which is now over capacity.

Mill Creek School is in the north half of the subdivision, which is bisected by Fabyan Parkway. A portion of its far south end lies in the Batavia school district.

Figures about the number of Mill Creek residents at Western Avenue and Mill Creek will be presented at the boundary meetings. District leaders also want to answer any questions families from the area may have.

On Oct. 20, the school board will discuss setting boundaries. The decision will be made Dec. 8.

For now, the district is only discussing boundaries for Fabyan. "This is not a full-scale district boundary study," Superintendent Kent Mutchler said.

The district's 2006 master facilities plan calls for expanding Geneva High School and building another elementary school on the western edge of the district in the Settlements of LaFox subdivision. The plan called for a referendum for both in 2008, but none has been scheduled.

The district is continuing to draw up plans to expand Geneva High School, but the LaFox project may be split out, because construction of the subdivision is proceeding much slower than was projected. The subdivision's plans call for 750 houses and 150 townhouses.

The school board will hear an update about the high school Oct. 27, and review its facility plan Nov. 3.
