Chicago man charged in police officer's death
Chicago police have charged a man with first-degree murder in the death of an officer who was shot while serving a search warrant.
Police said Monday that 37-year-old Lamar Cooper of Chicago also faces drug counts for possession of cocaine. Officer Nathaniel Taylor Junior died Sunday at a hospital in Oak Lawn.
The 39-year-old officer from the department's Narcotics and Gang Intelligence Unit was shot in the head and chest. Taylor was a 14-year department veteran.
Chicago police say Taylor had earned 55 awards during his career. He is survived by a wife, daughter, brother and two sisters.
The last Chicago officer killed on-duty was Richard Francis, who was shot and killed in July.
