When you need them, friends are there
Somehow we always find the time to complain, but we don't seem to find the time to compliment or endorse the actions of others.
Six months ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today I am cancer free and I hope to remain cancer free for many years to come. However, there are so many women out there who are not as lucky as I am. That's why we need to keep raising money to help find a cure for breast cancer, and ALL cancers.
This is just a note to let you know how some good people react to something like breast cancer. We have lived in Buffalo Grove for 28 years. Our kids were raised in this town. Because they are young men in their 20s and 30s, they spend a lot of time at local restaurants and bars. My middle son, Shawn, frequents "Rack-em Up" in the Buffalo Grove town center. A couple of months ago the owner, Will decided to have a party to celebrate his birthday. They decided to have a theme to go along with this party. Together with his manager, Will approached my son and told him that the theme of the party would be centered around the color pink.
Seeing as the breast cancer color is pink, they asked if they could turn this birthday into a fundraiser for breast cancer. In essence, they were honoring both Shawn and me.
My husband and I attended, as did my sister-in-law and a close friend. I knew a lot of the kids there, because they are my kids' friends. But most of the people were strangers to me. I baked a cake with pink frosting and brought is there for all to eat.
I just wanted to let you know that some people in this world are special, and I really feel that Will is one of those people. How wonderful to turn a birthday party into a fundraiser! And also for my son, who helped plan and run this event.
As I said before, some people are really special. I just wanted to let you know about two of those people.
