Tri-State is work zone, not race track
The speed limit in the construction zones of the Tri-State Tollway is 45 miles per hour. This maximum limit is in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of whether any workers are on site or not. The poorly named "express lane" is also 45 miles per hour all day, every day. Right lane, center lane, left lane: The maximum allowable speed is 45, not 55, not 65, not 75.
What we have currently is anarchy on the Tri-State. Very few drivers are obeying the law. Very few police cars are out there enforcing the law. Vehicles are cruising at a wide range of different speeds, an extremely dangerous situation for everybody, drivers and construction crews alike. Drivers going 45 run the risk of being rear-ended. Drivers exceeding 45 run the risk of killing a construction worker.
If we all start obeying the law then the Tri-State will be a safer road for all of us. And hopefully, we will all live long enough to see the construction project finished!
