Library Card Sign-Up Month: September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and the St. Charles Public Library is out in the community signing up district residents and registering Kane County residents to vote. To sign up for a card, bring two pieces of identification with you. One of these must display your current St. Charles address. For questions about registering for a library card, visit the Web site at www.stcharleslibrary.org. Anyone who stops to see us at the van will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gas card courtesy of the Friends of the St. Charles Public Library.

Book Magic: For kindergartners, Book Magic will be all about something they have all just started - school. Join Storyteller Jill Baetiong as she shares stories and more about the fun that happens at school at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.

For Scouts: For all Girl Scouts and boy scouts and their troop leaders, sign up for one of the programs especially for Scouts. For Webelo scouts there will be a Citizenship workshop at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 and a Communicator workshop at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8. Scout leaders must register with library staff in person or by telephone at (630) 584-9390.

ACT, SAT tests: High school students are invited to practice the ACT and SAT tests from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Sign up today at the Information Services Desk. You will get your results before you leave the sessions.

Sunday Afternoon Concerts: At 2 p.m. Oct. 5, pianist Eugene Kwok performs the music of Richard Rodgers and on Oct. 19 the concert features the Quintuplex Woodwind Quintet. The Oct. 19 concert is sponsored by the St. Charles Public Library Foundation with a gift from the St. Charles Art and Music Festival Fund.

Green Ideas: Meet local author Gina Olszowski, who will speak about her book, "Now Coming to a Town Near You: Voices of Urban Sprawl" at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6. This is a Green Ideas program. In the future, the library will sponsor other programs on energy-saving topics and healthy, earth-friendly living.

Nature program: "Creepy Crawly- Bats, Spiders & Snakes, Oh My!" will be at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Hands-on opportunities will be presented by the traveling naturalist from the Kane County Forest Preserve. Registration for this event is open to students in kindergarten to fifth grade.

Book Capers: On Thursday, Oct. 9, the second- and third-graders book discussion group, Book Capers, will be discussing "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown at 4:15 p.m. Register, pick up a copy of the book at the ASK ME Desk, and join in on the discussion.

Used book sale: The Friends of the St. Charles Public Library will host their semiannual used book sale from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

On display: Ben Deetjen's Disney Cars collection will be on display for the month of September. His collection includes different sized "Cars" characters from the movie, including his favorite character Lightning McQueen.
