Shooting by police under investigation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Authorities are investigating a weekend incident in which a Cape Girardeau officer shot a man outside a bar.

Police say 20-year-old Jordan Modicue of Tamms, Illinois had an airgun that resembled a handgun and did not drop it when police ordered him to do so. The incident happened early Sunday outside the bar Copa.

Relatives say Modicue has had surgery, but other details about his condition have not been disclosed.

The police officer who fired his gun is on administrative leave while the investigation continues. His name was not released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating, and an internal investigation is under way. But police spokesman Barry Hovis says that on the surface, there is no indication the officer did anything wrong.
