Girl, 3, dies; mother charged with battery

HERRIN -- A southern Illinois teenage mother is jailed without bond on a Williamson County battery charge filed after her 3-year-old daughter's weekend death.

Eighteen-year-old Bianca Starr is charged with aggravated battery of a child.

Investigators say Herrin police responded to a 911 call Saturday night about an unresponsive child in an apartment. The girl was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Additional details have not yet been released.

Williamson County and Illinois state authorities are assisting in the case.
