Bartlett driver accused of striking pedestrian

Bartlett police have announced an arrest of a driver accused of fleeing in her car after striking a teenage pedestrian Friday night.

Sejal D. Patel, 32, of the 1500 block of Derby Lane in Bartlett, was charged with misdemeanor failure to give information and render aid, authorities said. She also was issued a traffic ticket for failure to exercise due care.

Authorities said the 13-year-old boy was walking west on Southgate Road at Schick Road when a vehicle struck him about 7:30 p.m. Friday. Bartlett Fire Protection District paramedics were summoned and took the boy to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

An investigation revealed Patel was turning south from Schick onto Southgate when she hit the teenager with a 2007 Toyota Camry, authorities said. Police, in an announcement late Saturday, said Patel drove off without providing information or rendering aid to the injured 13-year-old boy.

It was not immediately known how authorities located Patel. She has not yet been assigned a court date for the case.
