Presidential election no laughing matter
The election of the next president of the U.S. is a process now officially under way. This is a very important and thoughtful event. However, one would not think so judging from the behavior of many people speaking on behalf of the Republican party.
First, the selection of the vice president was clearly calculated for surprise effect, not entirely on qualifications.
Some spokesmen (for example, Rudy Giuliani) when being interviewed by Charles Gibson, had to be reminded that the purpose of the interview was informational, not a joke. Giuliani seems to find humor wherever he is.
These are very troubled times for Americans. The present administration borrows vast sums of money from China so as to buy oil from Saudi Arabia. What a strange picture this is for the leader of the free world.
Meanwhile, our economy becomes more fragile day by day with one financial institution after anther failing.
But the most tragic of all is the price that over 4,000 young men and women in the armed forces have paid - the loss of their lives.
We have an opportunity to change this cynical and abusive government. There are important issues. Let's require candidates discuss them and not play games with our future.
Get out and vote!
