Tropical Storm Kyle strengthens in open Atlantic

MIAMI _ Tropical Storm Kyle is approaching hurricane strength as it chugs north in the open Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center says Kyle's top sustained winds have increased to 70 mph. Forecasters say the storm will likely become a hurricane on Saturday with winds of at least 74 mph.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Bermuda.

At 11 p.m. EDT, Kyle was centered about 310 miles southwest of Bermuda and moving north near 15 mph.

On that track, the storm's center and worst winds should pass west of Bermuda.

Kyle is the 11th named storm this season in the Atlantic.
