Gurnee man charged in robbery

Police revealed Thursday that a Gurnee man has been charged in a Sept. 19 armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of a Waukegan bar.

Melvin Jefferson, 46, of the 200 block of Minthaven, was charged with two counts of armed robbery, police said in a news release.

Authorities allege Jefferson thrust a knife upon a man in the parking lot of the Sundance Saloon on the 300 block of Lakehurst Road in Waukegan, demanding money. He then fled to a green minivan, police say.

Gurnee police checked the registered address of the van's license plate, finding Jefferson, who matched the description of the attacker.

Jefferson is being held in Lake County jail on $250,000 bond, according to the release.

Waukegan police could not be reached for comment on the case Thursday night.
