Briefs: Meadowdale 50th rescheduled for Saturday
The 50th anniversary reunion for the Meadowdale International Raceway in Carpentersville is set for Saturday, Sept. 27, after rain forced the party's cancellation earlier this month. The celebration will take place at from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the raceway, located off Route 31, just north of Route 72. Entry is free to the event, which will feature old race cars, music, food and presentations from drivers who experienced the rush of racing down the home straight.
Voter driver planned:
The city of Elgin to and League of Women Voters will co-sponsor a voter registration day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at six area locations: The Centre, 100 Symphony Way; Elgin Fresh Market, 822 Summit St. and 306 S. McLean Blvd.; and three Jewel/Osco locations, 1040 Summit St. and 1660 Larkin Ave. in Elgin and 375 Randall Road, South Elgin. The event is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women, Citizen Action Illinois, Unity in Community, and Hanover Township Democrats and Independents also helped organize the drive. Walk for Carl Tomaso
Huntley is hosting a one-mile walk in honor of its late village manager, Carl Tomaso. Tomaso died suddenly in June after serving in the top post at village hall for 11 years. The Coach Tomaso Celebration Walk starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Old Village Hall, 11704 Coral St. Your $10 donation will go toward the Carl J. Tomaso Memorial Fund. How to get rid of that old computer
If you want to get rid of any unused electronic equipment like computers, stereos or other obsolete devices, the Kane County Department of Environmental Management is holding an electronics recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27, in the parking lot of the former Santa's Village site, 601 Dundee Ave. A list of eligible items can be found at www.eastdundee.net.
Health seminar:
Second Baptist Church in Elgin is holding a health and education seminar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The free event, co-sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension program and state Sen. Mike Noland will feature 50 booths and include free health screenings. Among those organizations scheduled to attend include Judson University, Illinois Autism, United Cerebral Palsy, Sherman Hospital, Provena St. Joseph Hospital and the Kane County Health Department.
