Glenbard South grad killed in motorcycle crash

A Glenbard South High School graduate died Tuesday, his birthday, after his motorcycle was hit by a semi-tractor trailer in Lafayette, Indiana.

Bradley Trifone, 19, of Glen Ellyn, who attended Purdue University was stopped at a light in front of the truck about 1:19 p.m., said Lafayette police Sgt. Max Smith.

When the light turned green, the truck driver accelerated, Smith said. The driver, John Stillabower, 47, of Indianapolis, stopped to check his truck more than 300 feet later because he felt an unusual vibration and discovered the motorcycle lodged beneath the fender. Smith said he told police he never saw Trifone or the motorcycle at the light.

Trifone was pronounced dead at the scene.

Smith said the accident remains under investigation.

As word of Trifone's death spread, friends of his and the family organized a candelight vigil for Wednesday night, in front of their house at 22W201 McCarron Road in unincorporated Glen Ellyn.
