Elgin woman charged with home invasion

A woman was arrested late Monday after she was accused of pointing a knife at an acquaintance and forcing her way into the victim's home.

Christina L. Lonsdale, 43, of 236 Parkwood Road, Elgin, was charged Wednesday with felony home invasion, police said.

Lonsdale is deaf and was supplied with sign language interpreters for her police and court interviews.

The 42-year-old victim told police that as she pulled into her driveway on the 1000 block of Lake Terrace Drive at 8:02 p.m. Monday, Lonsdale, an acquaintance, was there to meet her.

Lonsdale showed her a knife and indicated to the woman that she should walk into her home.

The victim, followed by Lonsdale, walked through the attached garage and entered the home though the side door.

Once inside, the victim slammed the door on Lonsdale's hand, which held the knife, and she was able to wrest it from her.

Both women ran outside, the victim called police and police arrested Lonsdale a short distance from the home.

Lonsdale's bond was set at 10 percent of $10 million Wednesday afternoon.

Through her sign language interpreter, Lonsdale signed, "I was wrong," before she was stopped by the judge.

Assistant Kane County State's Attorney Alice Henriksen asked for a $500,000 bond due to an extensive criminal history and the fact that she was arrested 10 houses away from the victim's home last year on a criminal trespassing charge.

Judge Kevin Busch warned Lonsdale to have no further contact with the woman.

Lonsdale's next court date is scheduled for Oct. 3 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
